Electrophysiology Services

MenWalkingBanner1

If you have an irregular heartbeat, you may need to see an electrophysiologist who can diagnose the source of your condition. The electrophysiologists at McKenzie Heart’s Heart, Lung and Vascular Center perform studies to understand the nature of your arrhythmia and offer procedures to correct any problems.

At McKenzie Heart, Lung and Vascular Center, we offer electrophysiology treatments for conditions including:

  • atrial fibrillation
  • atrial flutter
  • premature ventricular contraction
  • supraventricular tachycardia

Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation, or Afib, is a common form of arrhythmia caused by irregular electrical signals in the heart. An electrophysiologist may treat Afib with an ablation procedure. He or she will work through a thin tube known as catheter to scar the tiny portions of the heart tissue which are producing the faulty signals.

Treatment for Atrial Flutter

In atrial flutter, also known as AFL, the upper chambers of the heart beat too fast, falling out of sync with the lower chambers of the heart. Treatments for AFL include medications to slow the heart rate and the administration of controlled shocks to reestablish heart rhythm.

Treatment of Supraventricular Tachycardia

In supraventricular tachycardia, faulty electrical signals in the upper chambers of the heart cause an extremely rapid heartbeat. In some cases, the heartbeat becomes so fast it results in an inadequate supply of blood to the body. Treatment for SV includes everything from training you in ways to stop an episode of tachycardia, to medications, administering controlled shocks and ablation procedures to destroy the area producing the faulty electrical signals.

Premature Ventricular Contractions

Premature ventricular contractions are disruptive heartbeats starting in the heart’s lower chambers. These extra beats can interfere with your heart’s rhythm and may cause a fluttering sensation. Our doctors can prescribe medication to help alleviate premature ventricular contractions.
